Nestle has recently launched a new competition where they have hidden 6 GPS chips inside the wrapping of some of their chocolate bar range. In a modern take on the Willy Wonka tale, apparently, the chip activates when the wrapper is opened and Nestle dispatch a team out by helicopter to find the individual and reward them with £10,000 / €12,000.

While in theory, it all sounds great, it will be interesting to see how this works in practise. For example what if I decided to eat my chocolate bar in an underground car park or take it on my holidays to Australia. Will they still track me down!

Determining winners of the competition in this way is a great idea. Geocaching has become popular in the past few years, with thousands of users joining the hunt for hidden treasures. I must admit that I am a huge fan of Nestle’s products, especially their chocolate and coffee. It is just a shame that their home country Switzerland has not got any Nestle factories, or else they would be getting all my money.

What I do expect however is an increase in inquiries for a vehicle tracking device, which can fit inside the wrapper of a chocolate bar! I also bet you that Tracker bars are kicking themselves that they didn’t think of this first!
