Do we track portaloos?

This was a question I was asked by a client recently! They have vehicles on the road and we were able to have a good discussion around these but another thing playing on their mind was this portaloo issue.

This was a pain point for the client as they had one stolen recently. Unfortunately for him though we don't currently do asset tracking (excuse the pun).

But even if we did after a couple of questions it was quite clear that a security tracking solution is not the answer to this particular problem. Here is the sums:

Cost of flat pack portaloo: €1200
Rough cost of GPS Tracker: €200

Now lets say I have 100 portaloos, its going to cost me €20000 to track these (thats not even taking into account some form of ongoing fee)

So I need 17 out of 100 portaloos to be stolen & retrieved intact to justify the business case for this. So although there was definitely recency bias involved with this request I am sure that 17 portaloos don't go missing a year.

This tends to be the problem a lot of the time when it comes to asset tracking particularly smaller items. It is also probably the reason why we have yet to go down this road.

On the other hand justifying the business case for a fleet management solution is a lot easier. This is what we do for our clients all the time. Feel free to try us out on this, talk to us about your fleet and we will see what we can do.

If we don't have the right solution for you, we will at the very least give you some food for thought or a recommendation on what other options are available.
