Yesterday the Transpoco team joined experts from across the EV ecosystem for the panel “Data in the Driver’s Seat” at the EV Summit & Expo 2025. The discussion focused on how data is not only guiding the electric transition but shaping the systems, decisions and behaviours that support it.Key takeaways from the panel
Charging data is becoming a foundation for planning
Melanie Shufflebotham, Co Founder and COO at Zapmap, shared how charging behaviour reveals meaningful patterns. She noted, “We see ourselves primarily as a data company. We aggregate data, add vehicle data and user data. There is data for insights, location data, utilisation data. All of this is really useful for governments, for fleets and for directing drivers and charge points.”
This data-driven view is helping organisations understand demand, improve network coverage and support the next wave of EV adoption.
Real adoption requires people, not just technology
Phil Davis, Fleet Technology Specialist at Transpoco, highlighted that electrification succeeds only when operators are brought along with it. He explained, “If you have someone who has been working for you for 40 years in a certain way, how willing are they going to be to switch to an EV? You can have all the hardware and software but if you do not have your operators in tune with that there will be a mismatch. You need to work with them, not against them, to bring them on the journey.”
Data informs smarter, scalable infrastructure
Shane Prendergast from SEAI discussed how data supports the strategic deployment of EV charging infrastructure across Ireland. Real-world utilisation and journey patterns help identify gaps, prioritise investment and improve user experience.
AI and simulation are accelerating electrification
Shekhar Koirala, CTO at EVE, explored how predictive analytics, digital twins and real-time simulations can speed up the transition to electric. These tools make it possible to test scenarios, optimise charging needs and design fleets with confidence.
What this means for fleets
Data has become the backbone of EV strategy. From understanding utilisation and route patterns to managing charging and supporting behaviour change, actionable data insights make electrification more practical, scalable and sustainable.
