GPS tracking for private cars

We received many calls coming into us from private individuals concerned about the security of their vehicles with the help of GPS tracking.

More and more we are getting calls coming into us from private individuals concerned about the security of their vehicles, and looking for some sort of GPS tracking solutionWhilst we try and help these customers as best we can, we have been completely aimed all of our marketing towards commercial fleet owners, however, the volume of calls is making us wonder if we should create a new offering directed at private car owners.

There are a couple of key differences for us in how we would set up a system for private car owners. Whilst some of our fleet customers use these alerts also they would be applied differently for private cars:

  • Out of hours use (my car is driving at 3 am... Ahhh, quick send me a text message)
  • Engine off Impact alert (accelerometer sensor in the car detects an impact whilst the engine is turned off... Text message!)
  • Vehicle battery disconnected - another alert, please

We may generate some additional alerts, for instance, if you decide to go for a drive at 3 am, but you won’t be too surprised by the text message in that instance. The key differences in our opinion from a commercial point of view would be the following:

  • Fleet customers generally want to pay a monthly service fee, we think private customers would probably prefer a one-off fee, or maybe the majority upfront and just a minor fee each month
  • Buy online, our offering for this market would be reasonably off the shelf, or maybe a couple of options, bronze, silver, gold for example. So this might be better suited online compared to our fleet solutions where each customer works with a salesperson to ensure we customise correctly to their fleet needs

Anyway, there are assumptions we are making based on the calls that have come in and the conversations we have had with people. What we really want is some feedback from people with an interest.

If you have any input we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact us and let us know your thoughts.
