Do dashcams really save money

Dashboard cameras are indeed an invaluable tool: they work like a reliable pair of eyes, monitoring what is happening on the road and the status of your drivers. They do provide evidence in case of accident, the videos can be used to coach your drivers in order to avoid unsafe driving and you can even set up personalised alerts for your fleet.

We know you might be doubtful or maybe just not informed about how they work and ask "Do they really protect drivers? Will we really save money? Will they be effective in case of disputes?"

We had a look at an article published by Fleet News some time ago where they drew up a list of dashcam footages that prove the effectiveness of this technology and we picked 3 of them. Let's have a look!

#1 - Savings worth £16,000: in this case the dashcam allowed insurers to make an instant judgement on liability. The fleet van driver, on a Ford Transit, proved he was the innocent victim of the Nissan Note driver jumping the red light and his company could save 16k, as the Nissan driver denied all responsibility for the crash and submitted third party costs of £16,206 including whiplash and personal injury claims for three occupants of the car.

#2 - Dashcam captures driver using phone behind the wheel: a white van driver is captured on video on a mobile phone call when he crashed into a lorry on a motorway slip road. The offending driver was so “wrapped up in his phone call” that he was unaware he had a collision, until presented with the damning footage.

#3 - Hot-headed cyclist: in this video, a cyclist is caught smashing the front of a £56,000 Mercedes limousine with his bike causing £1,500 damage. Thanks to the footage, the company were able to prove their innocence and claim back the cost of repairs.
