Memmingen Airport, in the Allgäu region of Germany, has recently adopted an all-electric F110e tow tractor that is now fully operational to replace its former diesel-powered tow tractors and offer a zero-emissions alternative.

The new vehicle has been provided by Goldhofer AG and it has been estimated that it will reduce exhaust and noise emissions at the airport and generate higher savings when compared to the operation of conventional tractors. The emission-free model can guide aircraft weighing up to 120 tons on the ramp and runway.

In line with the current moves of international airports towards the creation of environmental-friendly strategies, the Managing Director of Memmingen Airport added on the implementation of the new vehicle: “If we are to achieve our climate neutrality target, we have to commit to a number of investments. In addition to a combined heat and power plant and a natural gas filling station, this also includes electromobility. With the introduction of an electric aircraft tow tractor, we have now taken a further step in this direction.”

Lothar Holder, Head of Airport Technology for the vehicle manufacturer, Goldhofer AG said: “We are delighted that Memmingen Airport has chosen to work with us in order to continue to move forward with its sustainability programme. We are convinced that the use of electric vehicles at Memmingen Airport will not only reduce emissions and energy requirements enormously, but will also be significantly more economical than with conventional systems.”
