Transpoco reaches information security excellence with ISO 27001 and GDPR compliance

As technology becomes more prevalent in our lives, we are often so reliant on innovative features, automatic software updates and ease of use that we don’t stop to think about what this means for our privacy and security. Detailed customer data enables businesses to provide us with the products and services that we expect, often in a more meaningful way. But where such data contains personal, financial or medical information, companies have both a moral and legal obligation to keep it safe from cybercriminals.

With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force on the 25th May, that obligation has taken on a new urgency. Transpoco, as a cloud fleet management solutions provider expanding its focus further to connected vehicles and automotive OEM technology research, has already made the journey towards the implementation of a strong information security management system by getting certified to ISO 27001. ISO 27001 is designed to bring benefits to any type of business and is applicable to all users, including small and medium sized organisations.

“Companies can no longer overlook information security in the Big Data era and should have processes in place to prevent data from being accessed, corrupted, lost or stolen. We know this from our long experience with vehicle data. The ISO 27001 certification helps us in making our processes better and shows our adherence to a recognised standard” argues Rebeca Luna, Transpoco’s Information Security Manager.

“We have always been committed to providing information security excellence. Becoming ISO 27001 certified, in addition to our existing ISO 9001 certification, is an extra step for us to further demonstrate this commitment and reassure information is protected, in full alignment with the GDPR requirements coming into effect in May”, adds Ms. Luna.

SynX, Transpoco’s fleet management solution, helps other companies that rely on vehicles and driving to overcome their daily challenges. Like so many other companies dealing with large amounts of digital data, certification to ISO 27001 was seen as a logical step.

If you have ever wondered about the use of GPS tracking in a race, here is another event incorporating this multifaceted and helpful technology. After the successful presence of Transpoco at the Dlr Bay 10k Dún Laoghaire run in August, the Irish telematics provider has partnered again with Timing Ireland, a leading company providing sports management and electronic precision timing services to athletic events, and provided tracking services at the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon 2017.

The SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon, which took place on the 29th of October, is now the 4th Largest Marathon in Europe and is known as the “Friendly Marathon” due to the number of supporters lining the streets of Dublin to cheer on the participants.

This time, Transpoco has supported Timing Ireland in tracking over 100 runners and riders in the Dublin Marathon event. All lead runners, wheelchairs and pace runners have been tracked as well as all paramedics and support vehicles. As in the preceding marathon event, Timing Ireland used the tracking software API data to show the position of mile markers, leaders and participants on the event display so that the public could more closely follow the race.

Transpoco promotes fleet safety by supporting Brake, the road safety charity

Fleet and road safety are priorities at Transpoco. With the number of customers and vehicles we work with, we realise we have a real opportunity to save lives by positively impacting how vehicles are driven and maintained.

With SynX we help fleets in creating a company culture where safety is essential and not just one of many competing priorities. We do this by monitoring driving style and help set up competitions based on the principle of cutting out dangerous driving behaviour. We also spend a large portion of our development time on create reports that clearly highlight any risks that our customers may face—providing the necessary tools to address and reduce these risks as quickly as possible.

We are also supporting Brake, the road safety charity, by donating toward the vital work they carry out, with the aim that together we can hopefully make a difference in creating a safer working environment and a more responsible generation of drivers.

Brake has created an interesting campaign/commitment called “the pledge”; a simple way of reminding you to protect yourself and the people around you, build happier communities, and help save the planet.

The pledge consists of 5 promises to keep that will help maintain safety on the road. Here they are to remind you:

#1 - Slow

Respect speed limits and protect all road users by slowing down.

#2 - Sober

Never drive under the influence of drugs (including prescription) or alcohol, and plan in advance how to safely get home if you are going out intending to drink.

#3 - Secure

Make sure you use your seatbelt, kids have restraints, and you use safe vehicles with all the safety features known to you.

#4 - Silent

Never take/make calls or text while driving. Turn your phone off and focus on the road.

#5 - Sharp

Make sure you get your sight tested. Never drive if you are not fit to or tired.

#6 - Sustainable

Make sure you drive in the correct manner in order to save fuel, minimise emissions and protect the environment.


Seems simple, but there are still a lot of drivers (work related or otherwise) who do not understand how important it is to protect themselves and other road users. Make sure you make the pledge!

Transpoco signs major agreement with Topaz Energy Group

Irish telematics company Transpoco has announced an agreement with Topaz Energy Group, Ireland’s largest convenience store and fuel retail business. In a deal estimated to be worth initially up to €250,000 per annum, Topaz will promote the Synx technology to their fuel card customer base in Ireland.

SynX, which was developed following a €1m investment programme, is a cloud computing based service which integrates Transpoco GPS software with data from fuel cards to provide cost saving business intelligence. It uses a combination of technologies to boost fleet management through improved fuel usage, driving technique monitoring, maintenance recording and other business intelligence.

Typical users include Kingsmaid Domestic Cleaning in the UK which reported annual savings of almost €25,000 and a 300% Return on Investment (RoI) in its first year. SynX is based on research conducted by Transpoco which found at least a 20% difference in fuel consumption and 35% in maintenance costs between best and worst performing drivers.


Liam Mulcahy, Topaz Commercial Director said, “This agreement will boost our fleet fuel customer service and help them manage their vehicles more efficiently and at lower cost. It sits perfectly with our Topaz Quality Fuels which contains an additive that increases fuel economy. Partnerships like this build long term customer relationships and allow us to offer increased value to our fuel card customers.”

“This agreement with a market leader like Topaz is further endorsement of our technology,” commented Andrew Fleury, CEO, Transpoco. “Topaz understands that vehicle fleets that use fuel cards want to receive excellent customer service, optimise costs, as well as operating their vehicles as smoothly and safely as possible.”

With 444 service stations nationwide, Topaz is Ireland's largest fuel and convenience brand. 158 of the service stations are company owned and run, with 286 stations operated by independent retailers on the dealer network.

Transpoco earlier this year announced that it is to double its employment to 40 in 2016. Key target markets include UK, Ireland, and France.

Irish telematics company Transpoco to double employment to 40 in 2016

Swords based telematics company, Transpoco ( is to create 20 jobs in 2016 which will double its employment to 40. The expansion follows the launch of a new service designed to help Europe’s car, van and truck fleets reduce fuel, maintenance and insurance costs. The company already doubled its employment from 10 to 20 in 2015 on the back of the new service.

The expansion follows a two year major research and development programme supported by Enterprise Ireland. The new product called SynX is a cloud computing based service which integrates Transpoco GPS software with data from fuel cards to provide cost saving business intelligence.

“Fleet managers are not fully exploiting GPS tracking technology, because they are too busy,” commented Andrew Fleury, CEO, Transpoco.  “While they use basic features of GPS, they never really get to the stage of accessing real business intelligence. They don’t have time to analyse data from different suppliers, such as  fuel, vehicle maintenance etc. The SynX product automates this analysis and pinpoints key actions that need to be taken.”

Transpoco is a member of FTA Ireland (Freight and Transport Association) and has closed significant cooperation agreements with key partners in Ireland. Customers include local public institutions, transport companies and businesses that rely on driving for different reasons such as couriers, cleaning and construction companies.

Recent wins for Transpoco, an ISO9001 certified company, include Autoglass, a leading vehicle glass repair and replacement company and EPS Water, provider of water and wastewater treatment and pumping solutions.

The benefits for acquiring the SynX product for managing fleets are explained by Richard Aylmer from Le Gourmet Wholefoods, an Irish business which specialises in importation, repackaging, sale and distribution of food products.

We have saved thousands of Euros, on wear and tear, staffing levels, and diesel. I have recommended similar systems to friends who run businesses. There is also a security factor which is a hidden benefit. Also if drivers are lost, we can direct them where to go from the office, which is handy.”

Transpoco is targeting fleets as well as partners such as leasing firms and fuel card companies who want to provide added value services to their fleet customers.

Fuel card company Direct Fuels has already adopted SynX. “The capability to offer a fuel saving system that can help to cut their maintenance, fuel and insurance costs changes our relationship with the customer. As a result of this data we can really be a trusted advisor to our customers,” commented Kieran Dunne, Managing Director, Direct Fuels.

The 1-Fleet Alliance is a collaborative environment for companies working on TFMS. Top managers from eleven European companies gathered together in Lisbon in October for the 1-Fleet Alliance annual meeting, an initiative that aims to promote innovation, economies of scale, and develop the TFMS industry ecosystem, through wide collaboration between its members.

Nifti Transpoco - New Bus Launch

Not only did Nifti invite us to the launch, they put our logo on the bus, this was a great surprise. Thanks guys!

On Friday the 12th of July I attended the launch of Nifti Transports new bus.

Nifti have been a transpoco customer for a couple of years and we have worked well with them to generate some really good fuel savings and service improvements based on the data we are capturing from their buses.

The bus launch was an impressive event attended by numerous local politicians, them insisted for health James Reilly and lots and lots of local interest groups.nifti-transport

Overall there was probably in excess of 70 or 80 people at the event, which shows the enthusiasm and level of support for the service on North County Dublin.

Eric Bentley is the general manager of the service and he outlined the work they are doing for local groups, isolated individuals, and charities in the fingal area. He spoke about the challenges of meeting the demand for service and matching it with the budget restrictions. Some of their initiatives like the Beaumount bus service provides a way for sick people without transport to get from isolated areas to Beaumount. Without Nifit they are struggling with taxi fees, or a mixture of lifts, public transport and walking(a serious challenge for many people needing medical care).

To run these services, Nifti need support and it is great to see the national lottery supporting the purchase of the new bus.

Transpoco plan to further support Nifti by helping them to build a public interface to show real time bus locations and passenger information. Watch this space for developments here.
